To start advertising on Google Search you need a Google Ads account. Before creating one, check three prerequisites.
Prerequisites for a Google Ads account
1. A quality website. Your site must be well built, easy to navigate and conversion-oriented. Weak landing pages waste the advertising budget.
2. Long-term commitment. PPC (Pay-Per-Click) requires a sustained investment. Initial quality scores are usually low and improve over 4-6 weeks as Google verifies the legitimacy of the account.
3. Resource allocation. Initial setup takes significant time for keyword research, account structure and performance monitoring.
Step 1 - choose a Google account
Create a dedicated Gmail account for managing ads so you do not flood your personal inbox with Google Ads notifications.
Step 2 - Google Ads registration
Go to the registration link and choose your account. Google will scan your website to verify legitimacy. You will create an initial campaign (which can be paused immediately).
Step 3 - campaign configuration
Choose campaign goals, add headlines and descriptions (Responsive Search Ads allow up to 15 headlines and 4 descriptions), select target locations, set a budget and duration, then configure billing details.
Building a keyword strategy
The most important areas of keyword research:
- Website analysis - review the site structure to surface core terminology
- Research tools - use tools that provide search volume, competition and bid insights
- Customer perspective - anticipate what potential clients would actually search for
